PREP 2019 Application Opens
San Antonio, November 2, 2018— The University of Texas at San Antonio’s (UTSA’s) Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP) announced the application launch for PREP 2019. The application is available online and is open from November 1, 2018 until January 14, 2019.
This year marks PREP’s 40th anniversary. Founded in 1979 by math professor, Manuel Berriozábal, PREP is a national program serving underrepresented populations that offers rigorous summer enrichment courses for middle and high school students interested in pursuing advanced studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The program is delivered over the course of four years, and participants dedicate seven weeks of each summer to classes, projects, field trips, and meeting with and learning from a variety of scholars, researchers, and professionals from STEM fields.
This year the program will be held from June 17, 2019 to August 1, 2019. Admission requirements include: parental permission, nominations from a mathematics teacher and either a counselor, science teacher, or English teacher, satisfactory conduct grades, an essay, and either an 85+ or 90+ in selected coursework depending on grade level.
Application workshops and assistance will be offered throughout the San Antonio community. P-20 programming is designed to increase the academic success of individuals who might not otherwise have access to postsecondary educational opportunities.
